Why Marunaka has such a unique place in the timber industry

The compact machines of Marunaka are designed to be energy efficient and emit hardly any noise or dust. The linear planing technique has been known for a long time, but now it is introduced in Europe again by Marunaka for the wood industry. From technical point of view concerning wood, the main advantage of Marunaka’s technique of linear planing is, that, in contrast to sanded wood, moisture does not cause a roughening of the surface.

This tops the wood fibre super tight, as sanding pushes the fibres together. Then the fibres stand up again, making the surface feels rough. This effect is enhanced by moisture. Therefore you always need to sand a surface after applying a water-based primer in order to smoothen it and to apply the next finishing coat.

Because linear planing does not allow the wood fibres to stand up again, it isn’t necessary with the Marunaka system to sand after priming; the result is that you work faster and cheaper! Because the surface is so smooth, water may have difficulty in penetrating and dirt adheres less quickly. Great for the furniture and carpentry industry and organ builders.
